This two-day program utilizes the PERMA Theory of Well-Being as its guiding framework. Nurses will gain insights into well-being, fostering healthy practice environments, wellness-centered nursing leadership, Joy in Work, the Quintuple Aim, professional identity, and self-care. Evidence-based practices will be provided to enhance retention and reduce burnout. Nurses will leave equipped with tools and the knowledge to implement unit-specific Quality Improvement Well-Being Projects using established models.


This project will utilize the following frameworks for comprehensive analysis and execution:

  • SOAR Analysis: To identify Strengths, Opportunities, Aspirations, and Results.
  • Kotter's Change Management Model: To facilitate effective project implementation.
  • Kirkpatrick's Evaluation Model: For a comprehensive assessment of project outcomes.


This nursing continuing professional development activity was approved by the American Holistic Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. (Approved for 13.0 contact hours.)

The Nurses’ Guide To Thriving: Building Resilience & Self-Care To Prevent Burnout

Prioritizing the well-being of nurses is necessary for patient safety, quality of care, and the patient experience. This 4.0-hour workshop is designed for nurses who seek to thrive in the high-pressure environment of healthcare while facing unique challenges that can lead to burnout—a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion. This interactive and immersive program is focused on equipping participants with the skills and knowledge needed to build resilience, practice effective self-care, and prevent burnout in their professional lives. Participants will complete self-assessments utilizing the Brief Resilience Scale and Oldenburg Burnout Inventory and create individualized Self-Care Resilience Action Plans.


Program Learning Objectives:

  1. In-depth Understanding of Burnout: Explore the multifaceted nature of burnout in nursing, its triggers, and its profound impact on personal well-being and professional efficiency.
  2. Cultivating Resilience: Learn to develop resilience as a core skill, enabling nurses to adapt to challenging situations with strength and agility.
  3. Mastering Self-Care Techniques: Discover self-care strategies designed for nurses, addressing physical, emotional, and psychological needs.
  4. Practical Application in Nursing Settings: Engage in interactive sessions focused on applying these resilience and self-care techniques in real-life nursing scenarios.

The complexity of patients in the acute care setting requires that nurses be skilled in early recognition and management of rapid changes in patients’ conditions. In this 4-hour workshop, nurses will actively engage in interactive and stimulating group processes designed to sharpen their critical thinking, clinical judgment, and communication skills in a psychologically safe learning environment. Nurses will navigate unfolding patient care scenarios and SBAR Handoff to make timely evidence-based decisions, adhere to the standard of care, and effectively communicate with team members - while assessing patient conditions with knowledge and expertise.


Program Learning Objectives:

  1. Enhance Clinical Judgment: Master the art of clinical judgment by contrasting the NCSBN Clinical Judgment Model with the Nursing Process to enhance patient outcomes.
  2. Apply Expertise in Acute Care: Utilize learned knowledge to handle acute care scenarios adeptly, applying critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills for patient safety.
  3. Swift Recognition of Critical Changes: Timely recognize and respond to significant patient condition changes by implementing evidence-based interventions as prescribed for improved patient outcomes.

Mitigating Legal Risks & Maximizing Care: Patient Safety – Nursing Failure to Rescue Prevention (Copyright © 2023 Yolanda G. Smith, DNP, MSN, RN) All Rights Reserved.


In the acute-care setting, nurses hold pivotal roles in patient safety and face challenges in responding promptly to changes in patients' conditions resulting in mortality. In this 4-hour workshop, nurses will sharpen their abilities in timely identifying subtle patient deterioration, enhancing their clinical reasoning skills, defensible nursing documentation, and care escalation processes within a psychologically safe learning environment. Nurses will navigate complex scenarios simulating the failure to rescue patients in distress. They will apply clinical patient indicators and evidence-based guidelines to make timely and informed clinical decisions, adhere rigorously to established standards of care, and communicate with their interdisciplinary team members.


Program Learning Objectives:

  1. Deepening Understanding of Legal Liability: Enhance nurses' awareness of potential legal liability issues in clinical practice by understanding the four elements of nursing negligence.
  2. Root Cause Analysis: Investigate factors contributing to nursing Failure to Rescue (FTR): errors of omission in care, delays in recognizing changes in patient condition, deficiencies in effective communication, and delays in clinical decision-making.
  3. Empower Nursing Professionals: Reinforce nurses' pivotal role in preventing FTR occurrences with the skills essential for early detection, prompt escalation, and effective intervention when confronted with complications.
